General Information

Current Ownership:  If there has been an ownership change please forward the tax statement to the current owner immediately or return it to the Municipal Office.  Please advise our office promptly of any change of mailing address.  Failure to receive a tax bill does not excuse an owner of the responsibility for the payment of taxes nor relieve that owner of a late payment penalty.

Emergency Response:   Residents are reminded to call 9-1-1 for police, fire or ambulance services.  State your 9-1-1 number at the end of your driveway AND your Municipal Road #.

Building/Development Permits:   A Building By-law was passed in 2004 requiring property owners to obtain building permits for the excavation, erection, alteration, reconstruction, removal, relocation and additions to any building or structure prior to the commencement of any work.  Development Permit Applications must accompany building permits and are additionally required for mobile homes, farm buildings, new livestock operations as well as livestock expansions, and the change of use of buildings and/or property within the municipality.  Please call the municipal office @ 422-5929 and ask for Loni.  Please contact her   for more information and to make an appointment to complete your Building Permit Application.

Assessment:    The onus is on the property owner to check the assessed value of their property. The breakdown of your assessments can be obtained at the Assessment Branch in Steinbach (326-9896).  The removal of buildings from your property should be reported promptly in writing to the municipal office who in turn will advise the Assessment Branch in Steinbach.

Grader Rental:   A ratepayer requesting municipal equipment to work on private property must first complete and sign an application-waiver form.  Private work will be at the Grader Operators' discretion.

Grass & Brush Fires:   Where grass and/or brush fires are out of control, call your local Fire Guardian.  The Fire Guardians have the authority to call the fire truck for grass fires.  The council has appointed Fire Guardians for each ward of the municipality.  If a ratepayer does not make an effort to protect his own property, he will be charged with the total cost of fighting the fire.

Driveway Culverts:   It is the property owner's responsibility to keep the culverts across their driveways free of debris and obstructions.

Snow Piled on Municipal Roads:   The piling of snow, bales and rocks on municipal roads from clearing private driveways is prohibited.   Any property owner who is in contravention of the Highway Traffice Act, will be held liable for any claims arising out of their actions.  Violators will be invoiced for removal services and may be fined, as per resolution of council.
