General Information

What is an LUD Committee?

A Local Urban District (LUD) is a community located within a rural municipality that has been formally designated under provincial legislation. An LUD Committee is an advisory committee made up of local residents to help represent the interests and needs of that specific community.

What does an LUD Committee do?

An LUD Committee:

  • Provides advice and recommendations to Council on matters affecting the LUD
  • Identifies local priorities and concerns within the community
  • Assists with planning and community projects
  • Makes recommendations regarding the LUD budget and local expenditures
  • Supports local events, beautification, recreation, and community initiatives
  • Acts as a communication link between residents and municipal council

Important to know

An LUD Committee is generally advisory only—it does not function as a separate municipal government and does not have independent authority to pass by-laws or make binding financial decisions. Final authority remains with Council.

How are members selected?

In the RM of Ste. Anne, LUD Committee members are elected every four years. To be eligible to serve, members must remain residents of the Local Urban District throughout their term on the Committee.
