Information for Candidates - Richer LUD Committee

Members of the Local Urban District (LUD) Committee are elected every four (4) years.

Eligibility
To be eligible to run for the LUD Committee, a candidate must:

  • Be a resident of the Local Urban District (LUD);
  • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age;
  • Remain a resident of the LUD for the duration of their term; and
  • Submit a completed nomination form to the Municipal Office during the prescribed nomination period.

Candidates must meet all eligibility requirements at the time of nomination. 

Registration Process

To register as a candidate for LUD Committee you must complete the registration form (available here) and return it in person to the RM office at 395 Traverse Road no later than 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2026. 

Once the registration has been received, the candidate can collect the Voters List from the RM Office and begin their election campaign. 

Candidates must register with the Senior Election Official before soliciting donations or incurring any campaign expenditures. The candidate must also identify the account utilized for all funds, and their official agent.

The Voters List will be provided to Registered Candidates in paper format only.

Registration for candidates for LUD Committee begins on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 and ends at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

Nomination Process

Candidates must submit nomination papers which provide evidence of support from eligible voters.

Before a candidate is permitted to file nomination papers, they must have already filed their registration form. Nomination papers are provided to prospective candidates at the time of registration.

All nomination papers must be filed in-person with the Senior Election Official or designated election staff during the nomination period which begins on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

The deadline to file nomination papers is 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

Nomination Papers for the LUD Committee must be supported by at least 25 signatures of voters, or not less than 1% of the voters of the ward, whichever is less. 

Candidates must use the voters list provided to confirm that they have acquired the signatures of the minimum number of eligible voters.

Nomination Forms must include:

  • a statement by the candidate that includes his/her name, address and phone number and the office for which he/she is seeking election.
  • A statement taken under oath by the candidate that he/she is qualified to be nominated and that to the best of his/her knowledge, the information provided in the nomination paper is true.

All nomination papers will be available for public inspection. A list of nominated candidates will be available on this website.
